In the 80s it was leg warmers and VHS tapes. In the 2010s we went to YouTube to work up a sweat. But these days more and more people are turning to TikTok for workout tips, tricks and techniques. At KURU Footwear we decided to dive a little deeper and explore just what kinds of workouts are most popular on the platform.
The Most Popular Workouts on TikTok in 2023
We started our search with 22 of the most common and popular workouts, and from there we calculated the number of views for each hashtag to determine which activities are the most popular.
Yoga takes the top spot—by a long stretch! This wellness wonder has more than three times the number of views when compared to any other exercise. In fact, even if you combine the next three highest ranked activities (hiking, weight-lifting and cardio), yoga would still be in the lead.
That’s a lot of downward dog! So much so that with a population of 331.9 million people in the USA, every person would have to watch about 80 yoga videos to reach the numbers this practice has amassed. If we split the 7.5 billion views on hiking videos across the world’s population of 7.8 billion, that would come out to about one hiking TikTok per person.
On the other end of the spectrum we have zumba, volleyball and swimming rounding out the bottom three. Check out the infographic for the complete rankings!

Foot Pain on TikTok
People are also turning to online videos when they feel the tick-tock of their body’s clock. More and more people are searching topics related to foot pain and general health online, and TikTok has even surpassed Google as the world’s most popular web domain.
At KURU Footwear we’re on a mission to eliminate foot pain, so we also took a look at the various foot pain related hashtags on TikTok. Foot pain (plain and simple) is the most popular of the hashtags, followed by plantar fasciitis and foot pain relief.
Hashtag | Views |
Foot Pain | 549,100,000 |
Plantar Fasciitis | 430,700,000 |
Foot Pain Relief | 100,600,000 |
Foot Pain Tips | 6,500,000 |
Plantar Fasciitis Relief | 4,500,000 |
Foot Pain Exercises | 915,500 |
It’s no surprise plantar fasciitis ranks so highly on the list. Experts estimate that one in 10 Americans will deal with this painful condition at some point in their lives. With 430.7 million views, and about 331.9 million people in the U.S., that means every single person in the U.S. could have watched a Plantar Fasciitis-related video on TikTok at least once!
Fortunately for those folks, plantar fasciitis can often be treated at-home by getting more rest, following a stretching and exercise routine, and wearing comfortable and supportive shoes—like KURUs.
Methodology and Sources
We wanted to find out which types of workouts were the most popular on TikTok in 2023. We created our rankings by calculating the number of views for 22 different types of workout hashtags on TikTok. We followed the same process for identifying the most popular foot pain topics.
We used Census Bureau data to find the population of the United States of America, and the world. We then divided the number of views by those populations to draw conclusions on how often people would have to watch videos to reach the number of views listed on TikTok.
