Our Story

We believe meaningful dreams can become powerful realities.

What began as a child’s 5th grade shoe sketches (hint: from our Founder and CEO Bret Rasmussen) is now a thriving footwear company that has given tens of thousands of customers life-changing foot pain relief.

Thanks to our team of passionate people and a powerful underlying mission, we’ve grown from launching KURUSOLE, the world’s first dynamic heel-hugging technology, in 2008 to an ever-expanding lineup of pain-relieving footwear that puts your heels first.

More than 1 million pairs and 32,000+ 5-star reviews later, our mission is as certain as ever: to help you Heel Better™ so you can live the life you love.

Love What You Do

If you do what you love you’ll never work a day in your life, but that can be as much about the culture and fit as about the career path. We know we’re here on this Earth to do more than sell shoes, and we strive to create an atmosphere where we empower our employees and then get out of their way. You’ll set goals and chase dreams, but we aren’t here to babysit or micromanage the expertise you bring to the table. With a fully stocked kitchen and Nintendo Switch in the break room for MarioKart tournaments, we make it easy to catch your breath and catch up with your colleagues.

Find The Balance

We want you to succeed, and we recognize a healthy work-life balance is a crucial part of the equation. As much excitement as we have for what you achieve in the workplace, we are even more thrilled to see you grow and thrive in your personal life. One example is the KURU Life Goals Sabbatical Program, which allots extra vacation time and even a stipend at 3, 6, and 9 years with the company. So go pursue the things that inspire you, and then come back refreshed and rejuvenated. This mentality extends to managers who are more focused on how you’re doing than when and where you’re doing it.

We offer both group and voluntary life insurance, as well as short and long-term disability. A generous 401K match helps plot a path for your future, while our Employee Assistance Program is here to help you with the obstacles that come up along the way. We don’t work on major holidays and offer a generous PTO allotment each year. Oh, and did we mention free shoes? We load your account with enough KURU Cash for two or three pairs each year on your hire date.

Utah: ‘Tomorrow’s Tech Mecca’

Business is thriving in Utah, and some of the most rapid growth is happening along the Silicon Slopes. The foothills between Salt Lake City and Provo are packed with big names like Adobe, eBay, Vivint, and more.

The technology sector in Utah continues to boom, and it shows no signs of slowing. In 2022, there were almost 67,500 tech jobs in Salt Lake City—an increase of 12% from pre-pandemic year 2019—and that number is expected to continue to grow. In 2017, Forbes ranked Salt Lake City as the No. 1 city ready to become “Tomorrow’s Tech Meccas.

Economic Buzz in the Beehive State

All of this growth means your dollar goes further in the Beehive State. Utah ranked No. 1 for “Best Economic Outlook” yet again in 2023 by Rich State Poor States—a spot it has held for 16 consecutive years

Forbes has also recognized Utah consistently as one of the Top 3 States for Business for decades, with six appearances in the No. 1 spot. Utah ranks among the best states for personal income growth, family prosperity, and quality of life.

Getting To Know You

Clear communication is the cornerstone of our hiring process and internal philosophy. Here is what you can expect after applying for a job with KURU:

We make it easy to connect for our initial screening—a brief interview held over the phone or via video conference before we take the next step. From there we focus on two things: What you can do, and how you do it. You may have separate interviews to discuss your skillset and how your values align with KURU, or those two interviews may be combined depending on your position.

At each step, we treat you the way we would like to be treated, and we will never ask you to complete a project as part of the hiring process without compensating you for your time. We don’t use canned emails to communicate hiring updates, and if we part ways we’ll be upfront and transparent about the reasons.
