Experts Guide to Slippers

What are Slippers?

Everyone loves slippers—especially when they can easily slip on and off our feet. Most slippers are made to be comfortable, and some will also help keep your feet warm. Older kinds of slippers will easily slip onto the foot and don’t need to be buttoned or buckled.

Slippers come in a wide variety of styles and colors, including outdoor slippers, sheepskin slippers, sneaker slippers, slipper boots, and shoe slippers. However, if you feel pain after being on your feet around your home, then it’s important to look for slippers with proper padding and support.

Over time, you can experience inflammation and pain by walking barefoot. Luckily, there’s no need to buy expensive orthopedic slippers to get the support you need. Our wide range of slippers comes with arch support to ensure that your strides are always light and comfortable without pain.

Slipper Care Tips

Follow these simple tips to keep your slippers looking their best for years to come.

Depending on what kind of slippers you have, there are a few different ways that you can clean them. Below are a few tips to ensure that your slippers get the best kind of care possible.

If you’re looking to keep your shoes in top shape, prepare warm water inside a bucket. Place your slippers inside and leave for a total of 5 minutes then add a few pinches of baking soda. Leave it in for an additional 5 minutes then use an old toothbrush to give them a thorough scrub.

The method of cleaning for suede slippers is different, where you need to first remove soil from the soles. Next, look for any stains that need a spot clean, and wipe them down using a damp cloth. Then move on to the interior of the slippers and make sure they’re clean. Use a blow-dryer on its lowest setting to fully dry your slippers.

For leather slippers, you need to remember not to machine wash them and instead, hand wash by first removing any loose soil. You can use saddle soap to clean your slippers and then buff them dry. Finally, apply a leather conditioner and then leave it to dry.

"Amazing Kuru shoes

I bought these shoes two weeks ago and the pain in my heel is already starting to go away. Amazing shoes. Make sure to follow Kuru’s directions and break them in as it takes couple of days. Once you do though, you will be amazed."

-- clcamero

"Very comfy and good for my feet.

I have been wearing them around the house as slippers since I received them, with and without socks, but I intend to start wearing them out with friends when we go traveling. My only regret is that they are too casual. I am a dress-up woman and miss my pretty feminine shoes that I can wear with dresses."

How do I wash slippers?

When it comes to caring for slippers, there are many different ways for you to wash and clean slippers. Depending on the kind of slippers you own, you can simply hand wash them using a toothbrush and light detergent, or you can machine wash them for a more thorough clean. Alternatively, you can also use baking soda with warm water when cleaning flip-flops.

Which material slipper is best?

Slippers are made of various materials—however, the best kind of material all comes down to your needs and preferences. Some slippers are made from mesh which can keep your feet fresh due to plenty of air ventilation. Other slippers are made from terry cloth, which is similar to the materials made for towels, which aren’t too hot or too cold.

Suede and cotton are also common for the creation of slippers, but should only be worn inside the house since they will soak up water from the outside environment. Wool slippers are great for the winter months and will help those who tend to have cold feet. Finally, flip flops are often made from rubber, plastic, or foam, which are great for outdoor use and can be used for all kinds of terrain.

How is the arch support of KURU shoes?

KURU shoes deliver excellent arch support without the need for thick inserts or expensive, custom orthotics.

Superior arch support starts with our patented KURUSOLE technology, which delivers natural cushioning and dynamically hugs your heel with every step. Every foot is unique, and our ULTIMATE INSOLES adapt to fit your needs by using your own body heat to custom-mold to the shape of your feet over time.

The corrective nature of our superior arch support is designed to neutralize your weight distribution and place your foot in the best anatomical position. This support can take some getting used to. We suggest slowly breaking in your new shoes over the course of 2–3 weeks.

I just received a pair of your shoes and my feet are sore/hurt after wearing them. Why is that?

Some customers experience tenderness when they first start wearing a new pair of KURUs. That’s ok! Your body may need time to adjust to the new levels of anatomical support you experience with our patented KURUSOLE technology. Our shoes are also designed to mold to your unique foot shape, which takes a bit of a break-in period.

To help mitigate this, we suggest you follow our break-in procedure, including wearing your KURUs for a couple hours per day around the house in the first couple of weeks as they break in and form to your foot.

How do I know which shoe to buy? Which is best for me?

The best shoe for you will depend on your unique foot type and the style you’re looking for.

The best shoes for men and women alike offer adequate arch support and cushion. Whether you’re looking for bright blue shoes, dark blue shoes, or white shoes with blue accents, KURUs line of pain-relieving footwear help alleviate foot pain symptoms for all-day comfort.
