- Try massaging the muscles around the nerve to reduce tension.
After trying these methods for a while, if they do not relieve the symptoms your doctor may suggest a few other things to help. There are devices or special pads that spread the toes to keep them from squeezing the nerve. In some cases, a doctor may give you a steroid to reduce swelling and pain. If nothing else seems to work, it may be time to consider surgery.
