The Best Plantar Fasciitis Stretches

Dealing with the pain of plantar fasciitis can be a daily struggle. One way to help reduce the pain of plantar fasciitis is through a stretching routine. While the pain from plantar fasciitis can take years to completely dissipate, plantar fasciitis stretches can temporarily relieve stress and inflammation in the plantar fascia tendon.

Of course, doing stretches for plantar fasciitis in combination with regularly wearing KURU shoes can significantly improve your day to day movement and reduce the persistent pain of plantar fasciitis.

Plantar Fasciitis Stretches

You should devote time in the morning and evening to these stretches.

  • Belt or Towel Stretch: When sitting with one leg outstretched in front of you and the other leg bent, wrap the towel or belt over the ball of your foot and pull back gently. Hold this position for 10-15 seconds, relax, and repeat with each foot.
  • Incline Stretch: You can use a board or a book or the wall itself for this easy, effective stretch. Set the object against the wall and place the ball of your foot on top and lean into the wall. With your hips and legs inline, hold this position for a few seconds and relax. Do this 10-20 times to increase flexibility in the plantar fascia.
  • Heel Raises: This exercise for plantar fasciitis can be done anywhere. Simply place your toes on a stair or a small block and slowly raise and lower your heel below your toes. Hold this for 10-15 seconds to stretch the Achilles tendon, calf muscles, and plantar fascia tendon.
  • Night Splint: If you suffer from severe plantar fasciitis, you may need to prevent the plantar fascia from contracting at night. Wearing a night splint will stretch the heel and arch at night while you sleep. This can be effective in reducing daily heel pain upon rising.

Exercises for Plantar Fasciitis

Doing a few of these simple exercises regularly can help reduce plantar fasciitis pain.

  • Foot Massage: Placing a small ball underneath the foot and rolling back and forth while applying weight will both stretch and massage the underside of the foot. Massaging by hand at the end of the day is also effective.
  • Ice & Anti-Inflammatory: Regularly icing and taking an anti-inflammatory can help a lot with swelling and persistent pain. This should be done a couple times of day depending on the severity of the plantar fasciitis.
  • Calf & Hamstring Stretch: To stretch the hamstring, extend one leg in front of you with your foot flexed and lean back on your other leg with your knee bent slightly. This will stretch the calf and thigh.
  • Wall Stretches: Simply face a wall and place your hands on the wall at eye level and put one leg behind the other. Bend your knee and push your back leg to the floor until you feel the stretch in the back of your leg and bottom of your foot.

Regularly doing these exercises for plantar fasciitis and wearing supportive KURU shoes for plantar fasciitis can significantly reduce pain throughout the day and get you back to the activities you love.
